Twitter Island

Here’s a pretty different approach to a tweetup:

About Twitter Island

Twitter is a real-time, 140-character, real-time messaging service. Twitter Island explores Twitter’s potential as a tool to reveal human behavior and foster artistic inspiration. Results from these events are being used to produce art; an installation piece based on the results of the first event is in mid-development.

and

Twitter Island is a social/art/psychology experiment in which we get
15-20 people to talk to each other anonymously and in the same room,
using only Twitter. At our first event, co-organizers Lauri Apple and
Seth Gershberg let participants tweet about “whatever” — and so they
did, discussing everything from jobs to favorite hot dog joints.

This time, we’ll ask for participants’ responses to questions based on
provocative quotes that we’ve pulled from recent articles about
Twitter. Like this one:

“Using Twitter suggests a level of insecurity whereby, unless people
recognise you, you cease to exist. It may stave off insecurity in the
short term, but it won’t cure it.” — Dr. David Lewis, University of
Sussex (UK)

Agree, or disagree? Come to Twitter Island, and let us know!

We’re planning some other bonus features — including a treasure hunt
using actual tweets generated at the last Twitter Island, and cool
Twitter visuals.
